The Public=Online campaign is fully an initiative of the Sunlight Foundation

Currently, all funding and staff to create, support and grow the campaign are provided centrally by Sunlight.

Similarly, grant support to organizations that join the campaign's efforts is provided by the Sunlight Foundation.

It is the Sunlight Foundation's intent that the Public=Online campaign ultimately be "owned" by the partner organizations, local leaders and supporters that are bringing it to life. This means, that Sunlight aims to facilitate the infrastructure and framework through which the best ideas, activities, legislation, and even other financial resources can be leveraged to actually create a more open, transparent government at every level.

All legislation that is officially endorsed by the Public=Online campaign at the federal level, such as the Public Online Information Act or the Transparency in Government Act , will be vetted by the Sunlight Foundation policy team.

As the campaign grows, campaign leaders at the state and local level can use the brand of the Public=Online campaign to organize in support of or against legislation related to government transparency, though that legislation will not necessarily be endorsed by the Sunlight Foundation.

At the end of the day, The Public=Online campaign is simply a reflection of the open government community across the country, and the community will be able to make decisions using the many tools at our disposal.

We'll be learning as we go, and it won't always be easy. When in doubt, we'll talk about it.
